I love Athens, Georgia. As the home of the University of Georgia and the Georgia Bulldogs, Athens has a young and exciting atmosphere. It has the intimacy and feel of a small town while still offering a huge number of activities for both young and old. For students planning a wedding, you can contact the University to get more information about services available there. If you are planning a larger wedding, you may want to consider planning multiple events as part of the wedding celebration. I recommend planning a Friday night party at the 40 Watt club ( my favorite place in Athens) or one of the other cool clubs in the downtown area. This is perfect for out-of-town guests who want to make the most of your wedding weekend. You can follow up your Friday night party with a traditional or untraditional wedding on Saturday.
You can then have your wedding reception at one of the local facilities like a country club or a hotel. Then on Sunday you can plan an afternoon activity like a picnic in the park or you can start traveling for your honeymoon. Athens, Georgia has the reputation of being a party town and wedding celebrations are one of the best reasons to have a big party. The Athens area also has a nice selection of older Victorian homes, gardens and parking areas they can be used as part of your wedding plan. Although Athens is not considered a destination wedding area, it is considered an extremely desirable small town for intimate and romantic wedding ceremonies and receptions.
